So the message that the Cornfather relayed to jefbot in the strip is completely true – the repair shop I took my Sony Bravia to wanted to charge me $700 for a new screen from Sony! I don’t even think the TV is worth that much anymore. In fact, I spent less than that amount getting a new HDTV recently, which is bigger and better than the one I was having repaired. And when I told the repair guy not to bother, he was incredulous that I would want to come by to pick up the broken TV. No doubt he was going to harvest it for parts to repair other monitors, and maybe that would’ve been okay, but it is my dad’s Bravia after all, and I don’t remember him giving me a donor card when he lent it to me.

And yes, the first chapter of jefbot’s dream-manipulation saga is complete, but we’ll come back to that storyline in the future. It felt like a good place to push pause and get back to jefbot’s television dilemma, which has recently been resolved in my own life. Yes, I’ve been reunited with my DVR and videogame consoles, and it feels so good.

Like, say, when they’re in the same building or in the same room, as in today’s strip. The Cornfather’s counterpart, Michael Cornacchia and I will text each other while sitting on the same couch, either because we’re too lazy to speak or because texting has become our primary means of communication.

But back to today’s strip – I rarely watch video on my iPhone, but when I do, I can be assured someone will call me sometime during the duration of the program. This happens even if I haven’t received a call for hours. Or days. In fact, if I feel like talking to somebody, I’ll start playing a video just because I know it’ll trigger someone to interrupt it. People have a sixth sense about these things.

The strip’s finally up! It was totally frustrating not being able to work on the comic last week while I was repairing the site. Although I was able to get to sleep earlier since I didn’t have a strip to post, I would still be thinking about the strip, and generally get up, wide awake, around 3 or 4am – right around the time I’d normally be going to sleep the morning before a strip’s due. So even my body missed it, I suppose, as well as my mind. We’ll see how I feel about this tomorrow morning when I wake up for work.

Thanks for all the understanding and support while the site was down. Here’s hoping getting the strip posted and keeping the site running is smooth sailing for the foreseeable future!

I wonder how many of us will have our bodies remain miraculously intact through the ages. At least intact enough to be dissected, mounted and placed in some museum like the mummies of Egypt, Otzi the Iceman or even Lucy, the Australopithecus. On the one hand it’s kind of cool that these ancients were able to live on in some way, but on the other, it’s somewhat grotesque. I think about this often and have come to the conclusion that I’d rather be unearthed by a (hopefully) benevolent alien race then sentient robots. Neither can be trusted, really, but my hope is that aliens would learn more from my DNA, stomach contents and bone structure than robots would. Of course, in the end, there’s always cremation as an option, but that may be robbing my corpse of an adventure, and I wouldn’t want to do that.

Oh, and if you’ve just joined us and have no idea what’s going on, I’d suggest going back a few strips to the beginning of this storyline, here, and all will become clear.
