I must admit, the first time I heard the term “Brazilian Blowout” I thought it was something obscene, probably because everything about those words, especially together, just sounds that way. I can barely even explain why it sounds obscene without putting an age gate on this post. This could be why it’s such a popular treatment, I suppose. Suffice to say, if it doesn’t sound at least somewhat raunchy to you, you have a cleaner mind than I, and should be commended for it.

Anyhow, once I was assured by my sister Laura that the process was wholly innocent, I let myself be her guinea pig when she needed people to experiment on – and I was happy with the results. I’ve documented (way back in JEFBOT.04) just how unruly my hair can be, especially upon waking or after getting it wet, and the biggest testament I can give to the power of the Brazilian Blowout is that my  styling cap has been retired for the past 3 months.

Thus, our “Going Green” storyline comes to an end. So maybe jefbot didn’t learn the “true meaning of Earth Day” exactly but maybe Lor got him thinking about the planet a little more than he normally would have. Who knows? Maybe he’ll actually <i>not</i> kill any seedlings or rose bushes next year and that’s a start.

Remember, this Friday is Arbor Day, so try and appreciate the great outdoors a little more than my counterpart in today’s strip. Actually, I think I have much more of an appreciation for nature than jefbot does, in that I can look at my parents’ backyard without seeing pixels, at least for the most part. I do tend to see Tetris shapes in floor tiles, and line up Skittles in matching colors of three or more from time to time, and sometimes think of Tapper when I’m at a bar, and fight the urge to automatically call Italians with mustaches “Mario” or search my friends’ houses for rupees and power-ups, but other than those examples (and maybe a few others), I don’t mix reality with video games much at all.

Hope everyone had a great Earth Day yesterday! Although the day is in the past now, there’s still Arbor Day to look forward to next week, and I have at least one more strip planned for this “Going Green” series.

And about the strip: my mom used to have tons of VHS tapes since (before TiVO came along) she used to record everything, and then keep the tapes. As in today’s strip, I was as guilty of this practice as she was and yes, I had stacks of Max Headroom and Manimal tapes, among others, including Robotech, Transformers, Automan, Babylon 5 and random MTV videos. She got rid of a bunch of these tapes recently and I was able to rescue some of the ones I wanted to keep, although I’ll probably never watch any of them; most of the programs I recorded that are still worth watching I’ve since bought on DVD, and the tapes that I’d like to keep are probably warped and unwatchable due to the crappy VHS medium.

My Super Nintendo remained plugged into my mom’s TV a LONG time. Mostly due to Tetris Attack being a game that was supremely addictive, and one that my mom, sister Laura, friends and I could play against each other on occasion. I also had the SNES GameBoy adapter, so my mom could play the original Tetris on the big screen with a real controller. The SNES remained attached to that TV long after we grew bored of those games, and long after I moved out when I went to college. I eventually did take the console back so I could break out Chrono Trigger, ActRaiser, Super Metroid and Super Mario Kart (among others) at will. Damn, that was a great system!

The Playstation 1 and my Commodore 64 still remain at my parents’ house to this day, albeit unplugged.
