Here’s a little “Post-Mother’s Day” strip for all the moms out there (including my own) that rely on their children for tech help! As many of you mothers know – once you’ve made even the slightest computer error in front of your sons and daughters, there’s no escaping the ridicule. It’s easier to just accept it. The scenario presented here actually did play out a few weeks ago between me and my mom, and by immortalizing it in the comic strip, I’ve fulfilled jefbot’s promise of eternal ridicule. Happy Post-Mother’s Day, mom!

So how ’bout you ladies and gents? I know we have some awesome moms in the BOTreadership, so let’s hear how your kids have tortured you when it comes to tech help. And just to be fair, let’s hear it from the daughters and sons that have their own experiences with their mom’s tech-unsavviness.

Don’t get me wrong – I love the new, third generation, Retina display and A5X-enhanced iPad. It’s just that, unless you’re looking at high definition content – of which there wasn’t a whole lot available when it launched – it’s difficult to notice the differences at first (unless you’re looking at text, which looks amazing.) Anyway, today’s strip is less about disparaging the new iPad or commenting about Apple geek fanaticism, and more about how amazing the original iPad and iPad 2 still are. The displays and functionality of the previous generations still hold up, and I found it’s only once you get used to the Retina display (just as on the iPhone 4 & 4S) that you notice the difference when going back to the previous models’ screens. And even then, it’s not like those screens look bad. I mean, generally, everything you’re viewing on the Internet is 72dpi anyway, so more pixels really aren’t going to help there, and in some cases, it makes the Web look worse.

So what do you all think? Any of you have the new iPad or are you content with the previous models, not having a tablet whatsoever, an Android tablet, or *gasp* a Windows Tablet PC? Sound off in the comments!

This scenario with my sister Lor/Laura happened pretty much as portrayed in the strip, years ago, after the rest of us had all called it a night. For some reason, Laura got it in her head that she just had to watch Tim Burton’s Batman, and would not take no for an answer. Well, after much hemming and hawing, my brother-in-law Mike/Coolhand and I finally relented. Seriously, if you know the movie – we didn’t even make it out of the “Batman Logo Sculpture” with the opening music, before we noticed my sister was fast asleep. She’s been denied movie calling rights ever since.

So I hope today’s JEFbot has given you some costume options should you be seeing The Avengers this weekend. While my friends and I normally don’t dress up beyond wearing appropriately-themed t-shirts, I will say that I do have some Spidey undies that will be more-than-likely accompanying me to the theater this weekend. Just sayin’.

So how ’bout you all? Do you get dressed up for event movies? Having met more than a few of you at conventions, I know many in the BOTreadership like to cosplay, so I’d imagine there are those who will be fully decked out in Asgardian garb, green paint, red and gold armor, black leather or a red, white and blue uniform for The Avengers. “Assemble” your thoughts in the comments!

I’m very excited about Prometheus, the uh, non-prequel to Alien (one of my favorite films) coming out this summer. So excited, in fact, that I’m thinking about putting a ban on all Prometheus-related promotional materials henceforth; I’m afraid I’ve seen too much already. So it both intrigues and frustrates me that director Ridley Scott has proclaimed the film, “not a prequel,” and that the movie only “shares DNA” with Alien. Now, it’s been well documented just how many similarities the two films share – much more than I’ve listed in today’s JEFbot – including that *spoilers* one of the characters is an android (just as in Alien), there’s a link to the Weyland Corp., the trailer mimics the title reveal, sound cues and cuts from Alien, etc. Now, word is that the planet is not, in fact, LV426 and the spaceship in the trailer might not be the derelict ship we’re so familiar with. But they’re definitely the same make and model. And the alien “pilot” is at least of the same alien species as our Space Jockey. *end spoilers* Actually, all this stuff only serves to amp my excitement for the movie, and I’m extremely intrigued about what Ridley Scott has up his sleeve. If, in fact, this isn’t a prequel to Alien, I’ll be shocked and possibly delighted. Guess I’ll have to wait and see this summer.

Sorry this strip wasn’t posted yesterday! Still absolutely swamped at work which is cutting into my JEFbot-makin’ time. As always, will try to get the next strip posted on schedule.

Although, in the JEFbot Universe, Coolhand and bot may have seen the original Twilight movie (see: JEFBOT.95,) in the Real World, both of us have managed to stay far away from it. Which is strange because we see almost everything. Especially every big, blockbuster franchise. But for some reason, Twilight is different. It holds no sway over us, nor does it try to. Hunger Games is different, however. Perhaps because of the violence? Or the Running Man meets American Idol meets Battle Royale meets Survivor concept? Or maybe because the romance aspect isn’t the primary thrust of the story? It’s unclear, but we did go and see the movie on opening weekend and enjoyed it, even though we felt a bit self-conscious being the only dudes in our age group amongst a sea of excited, tween girls cosplaying as Katniss or other characters from the books. I actually read the book and enjoyed it more than the movie, so am now thinking about reading the sequel, Catching Fire, but need to make a bigger dent in my reading pile before I get to it.

So what do you guys think? Am I missing out by not giving the Twilight movies a chance? Or have I dodged a bullet by not getting caught up in the hype?
