JEFBOT.408_Sunset

First off, SO sorry about the lack of a Tuesday post this week. I’ve been pulling my hair out over this downtime and am taking steps to ensure this issue never happens again. Basically, the hosting site changed the passwords for my FTP site so I couldn’t upload the strip, and I wasn’t notified until yesterday. After that, it still took another day to resolve the issue and get my new password set. Really frustrating. Anyway, the issue’s resolved, so I’m going to try and let it go while I still have hair left to pull. Moving on:

There are a couple of big things going on with today’s JEFbot, so let’s get to it!

First off, the Cornfather isn’t being written out of the strip (so you CornFans can put down the torches!) but it’s true that he might be moving out of the apartment he and bot have been sharing for the past few years. I’ve actually been meaning to do this for a while now; although the strip doesn’t directly reflect my life 100%, (heck, if 1% of the comic’s truly autobiographical, I’m in trouble!) I do like to bring some of what happens in the “Real World” into jefbot’s world, and the thing of it is, is that Michael Cornacchia (the Cornfather’s inspiration) and I haven’t lived together in over a year. Of course, we still talk and hang out, but it’s a totally different dynamic now, and I’d like to reflect that in the comic. Rest assured, he’ll still be playing a role in jefbot’s adventures, and there’s still much comedy, mayhem and drama to be had from him, but things will change.

Secondly, this strip marks the end of “Chapter 2″ in this comic strip! The first chapter – as represented in Volume 1 of the JEFbot book which I hope to have available to you all soon! – collected strips 1 – 203, and set up the world and characters of the comic. The second chapter includes strips 204 – 408, and expands the world and things get crazier. In the next chapter, I’m hoping to expand the world even more, and I’ll tell you now: things are going to get downright insane, so hold onto your butts! The next several strips will be relatively tame as the Cornfather starts moving out of the apartment, but soon after that, get ready for things in jefbot’s life to get shaken up, big time. I hope you’re all along for the ride!

Wahoo, Jefbot’s always the best part of my week.
No way, Cornfather moving out :O
Can’t wait to see what happens!

    • Kaze says:

      Dang it,
      I imputed the wrong e-mail address :P

Although I am a little surprised to see Cornfather move out in the comic, I already knew (vis Twitter) he had moved out in real life so I should have been expecting it really :P

Can’t wait to see the awesome changes that this will bring :D
(Suck it George Lucas, this how change can affect things in a good way!)

      • shootzee says:

yeah, although the Cornfather probably could’ve left a bit sooner to match Real Life, i think now seemed like a good time for him and jefbot to get out of that apartment.

and i’m glad you’re excited for the changes! i’ll try not to pull an Episode I-III! ;)

    • shootzee says:

awww… now i feel even worse about the site being in limbo for most of the week, Kaze! your enthusiasm is much appreciated. :)

and check you out – you’re the first to comment and you know what that means: the Shades of Firsting have been bestowed upon you! wear them well, especially when walking Sunset Blvd, reflecting on the past year. (that SoCal sun’ll blind you!):

  2. Joe says:

All right, new Jefbot! I think I checked the site yesterday just to make sure the RSS feed hadn’t broken.

I predict Cornfather will build up the move to grand proportions…only to move into the apartment directly across the hall from Jefbot. We can then indulge in a Seinfeld parody strip where Cornfather bursts in through the door with tall hair and a crazy get-rich-quick scheme (actually, just trying to imagine someone with Cornfather’s physique doing the “Kramer slide” is hilarious in and of itself).

    • shootzee says:

thanks for checking back and not giving up on the site, Joe!

and no doubt the Cornfather will be popping in “Kramer” style now and then. as for your “apartment directly across the hall from jefbot” theory – although it doesn’t directly apply to Cf, you’ll find your comment to be somewhat prescient as this storyline unfolds!

  3. Jason (that crazy guy) says:

Just when everything is calming down, a new storm approaches. Doggone it CF!!!!

  4. GardeBlaze says:

Cornfather is moving out? I feel a disturbance in the force.

Now, from what I can tell from the commentary down below is the comic is on the chain lift of a huge roller coaster with crazy drops twists, turns, tunnels and several inversions. Am I right?

    • shootzee says:

yep, the Cornfather’s moving out and no doubt that’ll cause a disturbance in the Force, GardeBlaze. and double yep: your rollercoaster analogy is apt – jefbot has had his share of ups and downs over the past year! (and the Cornfather’s leaving probably isn’t going to help matters.)

  5. steve says:

glad to see the sites back to normal for ya. I agree with Kaze on that one, this site makes my fridays very good.

bummer, no cornfather… man thats like leaving the house while missing a shoe right there… yeah this is gonna be weird.

hope you were able to find that movie. was a bit of a pain for me when I was first looking for it, but its well worth it. Also, it’s slow, so expect a long viewing. I actually had to come back to it the next day because of how slow it was.

    • shootzee says:

thanks, steve! glad to add to the awesomeness that friday brings. :)

and don’t worry: the Cornfather isn’t gone for good. he just might not be around as much as he used to be. how that’ll affect jefbot remains to be seen.

haven’t had a chance to look up the movie – between time spent getting the site back up, working on the strip itself and watching screeners, i haven’t had the time!

  6. Butt tightly held on to!

  7. This is going to sound strange but did you change something in your art? It looks different somehow.

  8. Oz says:

Still looking forward to the alien/scarf story lines, so I’ll be around for awhile.

  9. Kypress says:

I’m excited for the new change. (also, how much of “real life” are you going to be bringing? What about some of Michael’s “secrets”?) Although, if you weren’t admitting that the strip was going to have Cornfather’s apartment across the hall, I am guessing either across the street–like window facing window–or either directly above or below.

And, also, I agree with Timothyh P. Callahan.. your art DOES seem to have tweaked a bit.

I watched Grey Skies finally.. I had dvr’ed it. It was interesting. But, I needed to be “in the mood” to watch that sort of film. But the “mood” just wasn’t striking me. So, I kind of ruined it for myself by watching it when I wasn’t ready. I’m sorry! I’m sad your part was so minimal! But I did laugh at “[He] asked for my number after I served him his fifth piece of key lime pie,” and “Does anyone know how to work one of these?! I’m gay!” or however that line had gone (there a line from each of ya)!

    • shootzee says:

yay! change is good, (well, sometimes) Ky! as for the amount of “Real Life” i’ll be bringing to the strip: probably as much as usual. you know, a little pinch of this, and a little pinch of that. and we’ll find out what the Cornfather’s living situation’s going to be in the next strip or two. :)

as far as the artwork goes: does it look tweaked in a good way or bad? or just different? i didn’t use any unusual techniques. maybe it’s just the new wardrobe? or the different backgrounds? hmmm…

and don’t be sad at my “minimal” role: as they say in Hollywood – there are no small parts!!!

      • Kypress says:

Sorry! I fail at responding lately… I’m not sure. It may be a combination of the wardrobe change and background. Or it may just be my pregnancy hormones screwing with my senses. Who knows!

And, you’re right. No small role! :)

  10. Zed says:

Hey! New jeffbot recruit here! I just finished the archives from strip one. It took me 4 days, but I did it! Anyways, I suppose cornfather won’t just go poof, and we see him do see him again, just not as often. That’s a shame, cel’s gone from her last encounter, and I see a pattern with the aliens and large amounts of time cel is gone. Coincidence? I like cel, but jefbot’s been through a lot. Accually this strip made me go aww… jefbots life is just so hard! Can he tough it out? I guess we have to wait and see… (ps its a habit of mine to write a lot, I can’t break it, so bare with me here)

    • shootzee says:

hey! glad to have you onboard, Zed! thanks for taking the 4 days to go through the archives. now you’ll be all caught up when the next big storyline hits! and you’re right about the Cornfather: he’s not banished from the strip or anything. he just won’t be around the apartment as much as usual. as far as cel goes – well, i don’t want to spoil when she’ll be back in the strip so just stay tuned! :)

    • Pixie says:

*hands Zed his/her/it’s Welcome Packet* Hello! I’m Pixie and I will be your tour guide through the magical world of JefBot. In your packet you will find some hot cocoa and cookies of doom. Pst…they’re chocolate chip. Here you will find the Women of Bot, Also known as the Harem Members. They include but are not limited to Evil Step Queen (or ESQ if you prefer), Kypress, Tiana, Shanna, Daughter Judy as well as others. You will also find some of our colorful Mancubs which include and are not limited to Dork King (that’s ESQ’s manfolk) , Soul Man, Stan and several others. (ANYONE I MISSED I AM REALLY REALLY SORRY!!!!!!!!) If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Welcome to Boteerdom! *pastes on that weird flight attendant smile*

OK! In all seriousness (did I just say that) Welcome aboard. Nice to see you. And we don’t mind long windedness. As long as it’s pg (this is a family strip, Shanna’s son reads it as well as others) and Troll free. I was serious about the question thing. Feel free to ask, we will answer you in some way. We also have a fansite and page on Facebook. Feel free to find us.

Ok ok I’m hovering! Sorry, go play.

      • Zed says:

actually pixie, I do have a question, could you explain how to change my avatar? I tried clicking on the picture, but that Didn’t do anything, my name brings me to my website, and the date and time basically refresh the page. I’m using my phone right now, maybe that’s it? And are there any specal rules regarding the avatars? Excepting the usual, no profanity, no explicit material, no offensive material, ect…

      • shootzee says:

thanks for giving Zed his “welcome packet,” Pixie! i was hoping you’d come by and do that, as nobody hands out the hot cocoa, cookies, instructions and sexiness quite like you do. :)

      • Kypress says:

I GOT LISTED AS A HAREM MEMBER!!! WOOT WOOT!!! Okay, now that my unborn child is upset with me for jostling him around again…. (Oh, and Pixie, your package should *FINALLY* be in the mail next week!)

BUT, most importantly–WELCOME ZED! I don’t get to post as much as I used to, but I do chat people up when I take the time to put down my crochet hooks and wire cutters (and if the totBOT lets me).

  11. Natalie says:

Oh thank the Bot. D: I was scared CF was gone for good, I love him!! Can’t wait to see what comics you’ll be doing. I expect something batman related in July and maybe some Hunger Games soon. (; I don’t think I’ve told you this but I love that I only have to type in Jeff to get to this site, haha its probably my favorite thing about this!

    • shootzee says:

glad you <3 the Cornfather, Nat! yeah, he’ll be around again for sure. just not in bot’s day-to-day life. and chances are i’ll be commenting on the Dark Knight Rises, but i don’t know much about The Hunger Games. have you read the books? was thinking about picking them up…

      • Tiana says:

The books are FANTASTIC! One of the only series in first person present tense that I actually like. I read the whole first one in two days, barely able to sleep until I found out what happened to Katniss. Seriously, do yourself a favor and pick at least the first one up.

      • Natalie says:

I agree with Tiana, the books are amazing. There about 300 pages and only took me about 3/4 days to read. Not sure how the movie will stand up to the book. Especially with hardcore fans who nitpick every detail like Josh Hutcherson’s height.

  12. Destructur25 says:

This should get interesting. Can’t wait for chapter 3. I have enjoyed the rest of the comic a lot.

    • shootzee says:

thanks, Destructur25! if you liked the first 2 chapters, i think you’ll dig what i have planned for chapter 3, since a lot of the stuff i’ve set up over the past few years will finally be paying off. :D

  13. shanna says:

Aww. Poor Jefbot. Great time for Cornfather to announce he’s moving out (at least the comic version).

I like CF’s scarf. Of course that was one of the first things I noticed.

I can’t wait to see what happens in this “insane” chapter to come. Instead of holding onto our own butts, can we hold onto someone else’s instead? That’s a lot more fun. ;)

    • shootzee says:

glad you feel for bot, shanna! he’ll need the sympathy, as he’ll be going through even more trials this year! (2011 might even feel like a cakewalk in hindsight.)

figures you would notice Corn’s scarf. heheh. glad you like it!

and, yes: i fully endorse holding onto someone else’s butt while reading bot’s further adventures. i agree that it’s a lot more fun. :D

  14. DressesAreStupid says:

The last panel: *KABOOOM!* He dropped a bomb on jefBOT! I agree last year was pretty wild both in “the real world” and in the comic, but hopefully this year will be even awesomer than that one!

  15. Tim says:

“Hope we’re along for the ride?”

Even if I give up comics, Jefbot is my desert island strip. Can’t wait to see what’s up your sleeve.

  16. Infamous Nefarious says:

    Sausage in a propellor beanie…..

  17. Maryz says:

Great way to break the news Cornfather. Did Michael do this in Real Life? I was waiting for this to happen in comic since you let us know that Michael moved.

Anyway, Ive mantined this before, but I enjoy your Down-to-Earth strips, like the one about going to coffe shop and such, more than the crazy ones even though they too make me laugh. Just saying…

Hope we all will have good year ahead!

    • shootzee says:

well, the news wasn’t quite this sudden, Maryz. but the “feel” of it’s the same, at least from my perspective. :)

i’ve said it before, but i’m very happy you enjoy the “down to earth” strips. i like writing them, and i think they ground the strip a bit, even when things get a bit more science fiction-y and fantastical.

      i second that last hope!

  18. JoLee says:

Cornfather! Noooo! I’m so sad to see him go!

    …but the way you executed this comic strip was hilarious. XD;

Poor jefbot! His life is totally not going the way he wants it too. But, then again, when does anyone’s?

    • shootzee says:

i’m a bit sad too, JoLee, but don’t worry: the Cornfather won’t be gone forever. and we still have a few strips before we bid him adieu, anyway. i’m glad you found it funny (and sad)! :)

  19. Erebus says:

i think i missed an issue when did cel dissappear? can some one help :/

    • Zed says:

Well, a while back jeff did a storyline where cels arcade, The Last Arcade opened and jefbot went through his shenanigans with his arch-enemy, name is slipping me, slap me for it, but after that the aliens from the end of the beach storyline came back and cel disappeared, running after the aliens, leaving jefbot stranded on the roof of the building next to The Last Arcade. We haven’t seen her since.

  20. Soul Man says:

Looking forward to Chapter 3, Jeff!

  21. Stan Yan says:

Change is hard, Jeff, but I look forward to seeing where you go with the strip and the character relationships. I hope we get to find out what happened to Cel!

    • shootzee says:

thanks, Stan! the character stuff is what i most enjoy writing, even beyond the jokes and the action stuff, so i’m glad you’re looking forward to it. and we’ll definitely be finding out what’s going on with cel!

  22. daughterjudy says:

I love how the hoodie still has the 6 logo. I would totally buy that.
    <3 :P

    • shootzee says:

sweet, dj! i would, too. not sure how i’d make that, though. maybe i should have some of those “nega-6″ symbols embroidered as a patch, and have ‘em sewn on some hoodies? hmmm…

  23. Jiro Maeda says:

The announcements like that of Cornfather’s needs a bit of dramatic effects kinda like thunder and lightning or that ominous Dun – dun – dun music found in mystery movies. Just me… although I did put in the aforementioned sfx… in my head as I read this strip. Sorry I’m late guys, like Bot I’ve got a lot going on right now but heck, I’m still a bothead

    • shootzee says:

heheh. i like the thunder and lightning you had going on in your head for this strip, Jiro. i was going for a little more of a subtle, “walking into the sunset” vibe. but mix and match as you will!

thanks for being a “bothead” even when you’ve got other stuff on your plate. always happy to see the feedback from you guys, anytime, late or early. :)

  24. Tiana says:

I can’t wait to see what the new year unfolds for Bot. Poor guy is really going through the wringer lately! I remember when one of my roommates gave me very little notice before moving out…kinda sucked! I hope Bot can swing back from this one, shake it off and make it all work.

    Hugs!

    • shootzee says:

the Cornfather’s proclamation doesn’t make for an auspicious start to the new year for bot, exactly, but no doubt this will be one of the more exciting yet challenging times for our little geek, yet, Tiana!

      hugs back atcha! :D

  25. Sarah W says:

I’m not sure it would be healthy for ‘bot to be on his own . . .

  26. Pixie says:

Awwwwww…I couldn’t respond to this right away when it posted. I wasn’t sure how I felt about it.

*kicks the interwebs and shakes fist at it* You stop being a PUNK and let the Exhaulted One POST!

Can’t wait to see what the future brings.

  27. FunnyShaffer says:

Timing is EVERYTHING! This is the best strip on the web!

  28. G-Man0091 says:

Wait…How is it that CF only needs a scarf, still in Teeshirt and Shorts, when it’s cold enough for ‘bot to need his ubercool hoodie.

Hmmm….Does the store need any more clothes?

  29. Xinda says:

Funny!! See you Sunday Little Bro! :)

  30. Xinda says:

I like all the colors and the LOOK of this strip!

  31. Lor says:

I’m sad the Cornfather’s moving out, again.
