JEFBOT.269_Cornis Botticus

Well, the good news is that they’re keeping the name Triceratops instead of Torosaurus since the name “Triceratops” has been around longer and therefore takes precedence. Unlike the Brontosaurus, which never existed in the first place, unless you count in my heart. Props to Jack Horner and John Scannella for the discovery.

    First?

  2. Drakeye says:

it all makes sense now behold the coming of the jeffather

  3. Angela della Muerta says:

    NONE SHALL BEAT MY RECORD!!!
    *insane cackling*

    *ahem*

Love how the Cornfather went from “JOY!!” to “meh” in one panel.
I went from a pouty “yeah, it sucks” to a stunned “oh dear gods that’s so wrong”, when I saw the last panel.

    • shootzee says:

so i take it you’re gonna make a run at beating your three-in-a-row streak, AdM?

and yeah, the specimen in that last panel is a bit creepy, i’ll give you that. ;)

      • Angela della Muerta says:

I’m not promising anything. I’m just saying that I’m the only one who’s going to beat my streak *winks*

I’ve already warned you – if I end up with nightmares about the last panel, you’re in trouble! :p But not as much trouble as the world would be in if such a creature existed. *shudders*

    • Shanna says:

      Things that excite the Cornfather:
      Movies – yes!
      Dinosaurs – no

  4. Daniel says:

The second i finished read the strip i look for it.

And by the way i have been reading all the jefbot strips these past days(from 150 to 269 just today).
And i can“t wait to see what happen with Cel and Mu.

    • shootzee says:

big thanks for reading through the archives, Daniel! and keep your eyes peeled – Cel’s gonna be back in the strip soon, and the fate of Mu will be revealed soon after that! :D

      • EvilStepQueen says:

YAY! I love female geeks, and she’s like a Jedi Geek or something, yayayayayay and poor Musashi…is he cold, hungry, lonely? Awwwww

        • Daniel says:

I like Cel, she look like a friend of mine a few years ago when she decided to dye her hair purple.

Maybe the aliens saw how hard Mu likes to party, and decided to invite him to a interstellar party.

  5. Eddie says:

Wait, but is it a Jeffather or a Cornbot?

    • Drakeye says:

i dont know want to flip a coin for the discovery naming?

    • Angela della Muerta says:

Whatever it is, it creeps me out! *pathetic whining* Make it stop, make it go away *whimpers*

    • shootzee says:

according to scientific naming conventions, since “jeffather” came before “Cornbot” (even if by only a few minutes), the former has precedence, Eddie. or you could refer to “it” by its latin name: Cornis Botticus.

  6. Hundreds of years from now this strip will be hanging in a very prestigious museum somewhere. …Probably on Venus. Amazing strip. And that last panel is a piece of art. Kudos-BOT!

  7. Peg says:

Cornis Botticus – it’s two, *snap* two, *snap* two geeks in one! *grins maniacally*

  8. Rinthia says:

They put a pot leaf on your shirt in the future?

  9. tyler_durden says:

now,if that last panel happens..you’ll have to keep slapping the cornfather’s hands away from your Ipad version 35.

  10. Sarah W says:

You realize you’ve completely ruined Dinosaur Train for me, right?

This is worse than the decommissioning of Pluto . . .

  11. Angela della Muerta says:

Thinking about it, does that mean Cera was the product of a teenage pregnancy? :/

    • shootzee says:

yeesh, i suppose it does, AdM! well, at least until they decided to do away with the Torosaurus moniker, which means all of that type of dinosaur, young and old, shall be called Triceratops. whew! we could’ve had a Juno situation, there! ;)

  12. Stan Yan says:

I had no idea the Brontosaurus went the way of Pluto. Since you were nerd enough to write a comic about this, Jeff, perhaps some links to these articles are in order so we can scope out your source material!

  13. Kurt Sasso says:

But, there’s still time to vote! :)
I want that Karaoke sing off gosh darn it :D I’ve even started to memorize the lines….

  14. Sharra says:

I don’t understand why the Cornfather isn’t more emotionally invested in science. It seems like a sad way to live.

  15. Pixie says:

MY EYES!!!!! What has been seen can not be unseen! *rocks and mutters* WHY GOD WHY!

Ok that is just frightening. But am am QUITE impressed at the way you were able to blend the two of them together but still make them distuguishable. You go on with your bad self!

Yeah that whole no triceratops thing is just wrong! It’s only one of the MOST popular dinosaurs out there. “Let’s just QUASH that little piece of your childhood Pixie. Right after we decide if Pluto is a planet or not….AGAIN.” Bastards.

    • Angela della Muerta says:

There there, Pixie. I know your pain. I think I’m going to have nightmares. *twitches*

    • shootzee says:

ha! sorry, bout that, Pixie. how ’bout i fund your first round of therapy to extinguish that sight from your brain? ;)

and glad you like the technical aspects of that last panel, if not the subject matter. heheh.

amazing that it’s taken so long for this discovery! and let’s just be glad that the Triceratops name is sticking around. sorry, Torosaurus lovers.

    … (Speachless)

  17. Foxmouse says:

    Oh barf. :I

…You should make that thing some kind of villain for your sups to fight. It’ll be like a negaverse saga or something.

  18. Shanna says:

I hadn’t heard this. Must go Google it…
It really is sad that with increased scientific knowledge, sometimes we loose our childhood icons. I guess I will also have to Google what happened to the brontosaurus. I didn’t know it “never existed” so I’ll have to find out what you meant by that.

I occasionally wonder what future sentient species or aliens or whatever would make of what would be left behind if we suddenly disappeared. What would be left? What would go back to nature? Would it paint an accurate picture of us and how we live? It’s good food for thought on long car trips.

    • Shanna says:

On an unrelated note, are you still planning on making the Scrawn and Chub power shirts? Taran desperately wants a Scrawn one and will likely be pestering you about it sometime in the near future. He asked me for your e-mail address again since all the school e-mail accounts got wiped at the end of the year (we need to get the kid a gmail account).

      • shootzee says:

i DO still plan on making The Power of C&S shirts, Shanna, but it’s been so long since the last new JEFbot merch, i thought i’d do a couple character shirts, first. i’m really hoping to get new jefbot, cel and Chubman & Scrawn shirts out before the end of the year, so tell Taran they’ll be here (relatively) soon! i’ll be sure and email you when that gets close to happening. glad to hear you and Taran are anxious for these things! :D

    • shootzee says:

yeah, apparently, the Brontosaurus skeleton that was discovered, was really a skeleton of an Apatosaurus body with a Camarasaurus skull slapped on it, so Brontosaurus never really existed, sadly. but now Brontosaurus and Apatosaurus have become pretty much synonymous so our Thunder Lizard lives on to some extent. :D

have you ever watched that show, Life After People, on the History Channel, Shanna? it details what would happen 10, 20, 30+ years down the road if humans suddenly disappeared. pretty fascinating, and worth a look. just gotta say, once we get wiped out, the archeologist aliens better get here quickly: it won’t take long for nature to reclaim the planet from us.

  19. Funnyshaffer says:

Okay first, I LOVE the hybrid! AMAZING! Second, I was sooooo pissed off when I heard the news about Triceratops- It was by far my favorite dinosaur in the 3rd grade! Excellent strip as always!

  20. Annie says:

    Brilliant.

  21. thomas says:

Love the last panel. Nice mash-up :) I’m with you, stop destroying out childhood dinosaurs just to be accurate. Why start now :)

    • shootzee says:

thanks for the kudos, thomas! i’m happy you like the bot/corn mash-up. :)

fortunately, this time at least, we get to keep our beloved Trike! but we must bid a fond adieu to the Torosaurus.

  22. Anime fan says:

… and i thought the abominations in Fallout 3 were bad. this, this is, F*** right when i thought you two didn’t get uglier. jk but, DAYUM

    • shootzee says:

“DAYUM” indeed, Anime fan! just wait ’til i draw the post-apocalyptic, irradiated, zombie versions of the Cornfather and jefbot! then you’ll really see “ugly” in JEFbots panels. ;)

  23. Steve says:

why does that look like a star trek accidental beam up or something? And I have this strange feeling I’ll never get that last panel out of my head…

However I do love the artwork done on it. Very detailed. So are you thinking jeff-father or corn-bot? or maybe corn-jeff or bot-father? is that a wedge of cheese in his hand?

    • shootzee says:

heheh. yes, kind of like the transporter accident in Galaxy Quest, Steve! and glad you could see the beauty behind the horror of that last panel, even if it might give you nightmares later on.

oh, and that’s a cereal bowl in the uh, “CORNbot’s” hand. or maybe we should just call it, the ABOMINATION. (aBOTination?) ;)

  24. Natalie says:

Jurrasic Paarrk! That movie is amaaaziing. <33 I love Corn Father's face in the first panel but the bot-father is a little creepy. Great comic Jeff, I still wanna see your ipad!

    • shootzee says:

yeah, i love the movie too, Nat, but the book is even better! read it, if you haven’t already.

if you wanna see the iPad, come on over next Sunday if you see my car outside. i’ll give you the full tour. :)

  25. NeoDarklight says:

…the moment you mentioned Jurassic Park, the theme song went through my head. Man, that was an epic song!

BTW, have you been able to find a way to do the experiment yet? And yes, I will keep pestering you until you do it or say you won’t, because I suck at subtlety.

    • shootzee says:

i agree, NeoDarklight! that song’s totally epic – whenever something amazing happens, the five most memorable notes from that song play through my head. :)

not yet on the experiment! soon, tho. SOON!

  26. DaughterJudy says:

<3 I love dinosaurs. But Jurassic Park Terrified me as a Kid. It did come out when I was like 3 or 4 though to my credit. I did love the start of the Land Before Time series of movies though I did stop watching those after so many sequels…

    • shootzee says:

i was much older when Jurassic Park came out, DJ, but my love for dinosaurs goes way back. my teacher even let me teach the class about them when i was in the first grade! (i guess i was a serious nerd, even at a young age.) ;)

and yes, they should’ve stopped doing Land Before Time sequels after the 3rd of 4th. probably earlier.

  27. Leithal says:

    ew.. cornbot
looks kinda creepy in a few ways O_o
    good job bot!

  28. paul says:

Jeff, every now and then you make me think about the world/games that I am vaguely involved in… and then I remember that I have a girl friend…..

Thank GOD for the real world…

  29. Frank La Menace says:

Did you know that the tyrannosaurus rex was in fact… a scavenger?

    YOUR CHILDHOOD – RUINED FOREVER!

  30. J. says:

*reads through the comments to find out what happened to Brontosaurus*

Nooo! Those were my favorite dinos too! Those, and stegosaurus. Wikipedia tells me that one still exists, so at least I can be happy about something.
