JEFBOT.254_Good Advice

Well, now we know what weapon the Cornfather might use the next time he and jefbot go crimefighting as Chubman and Scrawn! And if you’re confused by the “Veilcracker” reference in the first panel, check out this strip from a couple weeks back.

Sorry for the delay in getting this strip up! I can tell you, being rested for today’s audition helpedĀ tremendously, so thanks for the understanding if you came by earlier and saw this image instead of the normal strip. And thanks also for all the awesome comments and support for my audition! It was for a National commercial, so if I get any further in the process, I’ll be sure to blog about it.

Good luck, Jeff! Let us know how it goes, ok?
Lots of evil hugs from Puerto Rico!!!

    Hint: You should make more strips about Jeffbot’s “adventures” in auditions and stuff like that. I miss them ;_;

  2. Rinthia says:

AHHHHHH!!! You have teased me, sir.
THIS MEANS WAR ON EARTH FROM THE DELIGHTFUL PLANET OF NOALRINHLIG!

  3. Cedric says:

Good luck with your audition! Hope it goes spectacularly well. =)

  4. jeffbotfan#300 says:

hahaha. of course i wont hold it against u JB. i think everyone understands. i would still support u no matter what media u switch to. it will be kind of sad if u decide to go acting full time but i will be rooting for u. keep up the good work and always “agik idup agik ngelaban”

    • shootzee says:

i appreciate that, jf#300! if i could “decide” i’d love to do both the strip and acting full time! however, until i can make decent money at either or both, the steady checks from the day job are nice to have. :)

  5. Pixie says:

    Break a Leg Jeff!

Make sure and keep us updated. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us tonight.

    • shootzee says:

legs were broken, Pixie, thanks! if i hear anything – like if i get a callback *fingers crossed* – i’ll be sure and tweet/blog about it. :)

  6. Spaarfor says:

No, I’m addicted to webcomics, you have broken my routine, you don’t even understand!

I’m just messing with you. Kind of. Good luck!

  7. eleventeen says:

    Break legs. Many if necessary.

  8. Shanna says:

Awesome! An audition! What’s it for? How’d it go? Please, fill us in on the fabulous details.

We are always happy to wait for your strip when you are doing things like auditioning! That means more real live Jeff out there for us to watch (I hope)! In other words, break a leg. :D

    • shootzee says:

it’s for a national colgate commercial, Shanna, and it went really well! there were a lot of people at the audition though, so no guarantee that they’ll bring me back. but i was happy with my performance, and the casting director and i have a great rapport so i already count this one as a win. (but it’d be nice to get a callback.) :)

thanks for the support – i’d love to book something new for you all to see, too!

  9. Steve says:

    Ooooo an audition! good luck!

  10. Eddie says:

Dont worry dude, the faithful ones shall wait :D

  11. Tiana says:

Break a leg! And have fun; I like auditions sometimes better than the rest of the production schedule (Though that’s theatre. Not sure how it is in film).

    • shootzee says:

leg broken, Tiana! sometimes i like auditioning, sometimes i don’t. but getting a good night’s rest certainly helps in either case. same goes for theatre! :)

      • Tiana says:

Very true. Though sometimes it’s fun (especially in community theatre when I’ve been working with a lot of the same people for five years) to show up drunk with exhaustion and see what happens. Probably not the best idea for a national commercial, though. ;)

I second Pixie, by the way. Abraxas plushies would be so cool!

        • shootzee says:

heh. i agree: seeing what happens when “drunk with exhaustion” sometimes works, Tiana! i’ve done this in acting classes on occasion and it has helped me to not over-think my choices. but yeah, when auditioning for commercials/tv/film, it mostly helps to have your brain functioning at optimum capacity! ;)

sweet! well, at least now i know i’ll be able to sell at least three of those plushes!

  12. Ebony says:

Although this sketch may come across as modest, this was real treat; even [dare I say]…EPIC?! XD LOL I went through Jefbot comic withdrawal these last few weeks and, of course, was not disappointed as I read through them. :) Good luck with your auditions and I cannot wait for the next installment. Take care!

    • shootzee says:

glad you liked the sketch, Ebony! even though i was late with the strip, i wanted to post something for readers to look at (other than an apology, heheh).

and i’m happy you enjoyed reading through the archives and thanks for the “good luck”! the audition went well, so now all i can do is wait to hear if i go on to the next level. :)

  13. Eddie says:

The Around the world is a great “power” :D I guess In your face thrown loop would be too much :D

    • shootzee says:

yes, it’s definitely a good thing The Cornfather has another power to add to his arsenal, Eddie. now jefbot needs to catch up with a weapon of his own! skee-ball? frisbee? slinky? hmm… ;)

  14. eleventeen says:

black eyes, trapped under a pile of nerdery, bumps on the head… Jefbot has had a rough couple of months. I think he might need a (non-violent) visit from Cel to put the world aright.

Or just have Popbot stop by and torture the CF to balance out the universe.

    • shootzee says:

now that you mention it, 2010 has been a rough year on jefbot, 11TN. a visit with cel would definitely ease some of that pain… but you know things never seem to go smoothly for jefbot, especially around cel, so that’s almost inviting tragedy. still, i’m happy to report a new cel storyline is coming soon!

  15. Really funny, bot! I love the action in this strip. ;-) Seriously, I really like the second panel with the bot already to use his “head exploding hands” and the Cornfather’s around the world. And it’s certainly true, never come after a man when he’s playing with his yo-yo or with the circular toy that’s attached to a string which causes it to go up and down. :-D

  16. Maryz says:

    Shmeep!

Im telling you Abraxas had it all thought out. Not to mention he realy likes that bracelet.

Great way to ilustrate the pain. Not with whole background red you but gave it a radiating feel and that rocks.

By the way, is it just me or does Jefbot shout a lot?

  17. EvilStepQueen says:

….Colgate eh? Well, you do have a purdy smile…LOL
*sending good luck mojo your way* hunnna hunnnna hunnna
(not too much, I might toot LMAO)
Good luck from the everso ladylike ESQ ;)

OH and yo yos to the head hurt like a mutha! I used to dabble in the yo…not well, mind you…LOL *sigh*

    • shootzee says:

*taking in all the good luck mojo* thanks, ESQ! one can never have too much!

yeah, most of those yo-yos are pretty hard! i know i’ve hit myself on the head with a yomega or two in my lifetime. :)

  18. Pixie says:

    Oh Abraxas…you little rascal you.

I love the fact that Jeff still thinks he’s dreaming and CF automatically counters with a yo-yo attack! That’s awesome.

Shmeep….Why don’t I have something that sdays shmeep! We need Abraxas plushies!

    • shootzee says:

that wascally ferret! i’d love to make plushes of Mu and Abraxas, Pixie! once i get the book out, who knows? ;)

glad you liked the yo-yo attack!

      • Pixie says:

Plushie must say Shmeep! Not that I’m beling demanding or anything……*Staples a square, rusty, burnt to a crisp halo over the horns.”

        What?

  19. Funnyshaffer says:

The second panel is awesome! The color and tone of your strip never disappoints! Break a leg!

  20. Jaeh says:

ACK! well, I’m late this time.

    abraxas is so cute. xD
    and…. ouch. O.o a pinch would’ve sufficed.

    • shootzee says:

since i was so late with this strip, everyone should be awarded “first” on this one, Jaeh! ;)

and agreed: the Cornfather should’ve given bot a *pinch* instead of a *bonk!*

  21. daughterjudy says:

Payback is a bitch. I wonder if Cornfather is going to get whats coming to him.

  22. Nick says:

I about fell out of my chair laughing when Cornfather smacked him with the yo-yo. Hopefully you get the commercial part and continue to keep up the awesome work.

    • shootzee says:

would that be called FOCL, Nick? ;)

glad you got a laugh out of this one! and yes, i’m hoping i get that part, too. but if not, it’s on to the next audition!

  23. Kat says:

It’s ok I’m in the UK so I wasn’t awake when you usually post :P Belated good luck anyway.

Ps. Ferrets ears are a bit more rounded than that: (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v213/Kiro8/?action=view&current=DSCF2298.jpg&newest=1) but it does suit your style.

    • shootzee says:

i’m happy to know the strip wasn’t late for everybody, Kat! thanks for the belated good luck!

and while i normally draw Abraxas with more rounded ears, i was using this image as a reference this time ‘cuz i thought it was cute. :)

      • Kat says:

Ah! Tis cute…One of the abandoned kits my housemate found has more pointed ears like that. He also has huge feet meaning he’s probably gonna be bigger than our biggest (the one the photo looking at the camera (who’s tiny dog size)

  24. Natalie says:

Lol I love all these dream comics. xD Go Corn Father!! I’ve never been able to do a single thing on the yo-yo, I can bearly throw it down and get it back. Great comic Jeff I love the CF’s face in the first panel. Hope you get the job Jeff. (:

    • shootzee says:

thanks, Nat! glad you’re liking this storyline. i’ve never been able to do much with a yo-yo, either. at most i could make it “go to sleep,” then zip it back up the string, but even that didn’t work most of the time. gave up on it and went back to playing videogames full-time. ;)

and if i get the job, i’ll let you know!

  25. Jason (that crazy guy) says:

    “Around the world!!!”
    *bonk*

    Hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe

  26. sis says:

    The yo-yo effect is rad!

  27. bryte says:

I feel like bad about writing this but the yo-yo is going the wrong way, if it is possible the trick wouldn’t be called around the world

    • shootzee says:

don’t feel bad, bryte – i knew a yo-yo fan would call me out on this! there is a “reverse around the world” – which is what the Cornfather is actually doing – but it just didn’t read as well. i also didn’t want to draw a real “around the world” as it would’ve uppercut jefbot in the jaw, which i felt was a bit severe considering jefbot’s reaction in the third panel.

  28. tyler_durden says:

let’s see…walk the dog, rock aby baby and a new one…crack your friends skull!

  29. Manimalius says:

Sending some positive mojo from Japan on a Colgate callback Jeff. Thas right, bussin’ out da “CC-Mojo”

  30. Just lookit that Colgate smile! *ding!* (gleamy tooth glem thinger)

    • shootzee says:

if i book that commercial, i’d definitely be that guy, David! well, after they scan my mouth and find a bunch of invisible teeth-nasties, but still. ;)

  31. P.S. Where’s my Jefbot book? The fans demand it, bro. ;-)

    • shootzee says:

workin’ on it, man! hoping to finish the layout by the end of next month (but hopefully sooner) so i can get it to a printer before summer ends. i need to take like, a week or two off my day job so i can get to all this fun stuff. :)

  32. Erhannis says:

Hahaha. As a note, you can, indeed, feel pain in dreams (or at least I can). It seems a kinda toned down to me, though. There was this one dream where I pet a kitten and it bit my hand between my thumb and fingers and latched on. I didn’t flail for fear of hurting the kitten, but it hurt. Then I woke up, and it was like the echoes of pain slowly faded from my hand. It was interesting.

  33. RavenRamsey says:

you know, the yo-yo actually started as an asian weapon.
