JEFBOT.234_Going Green 4

Remember, this Friday is Arbor Day, so try and appreciate the great outdoors a little more than my counterpart in today’s strip. Actually, I think I have much more of an appreciation for nature than jefbot does, in that I can look at my parents’ backyard without seeing pixels, at least for the most part. I do tend to see Tetris shapes in floor tiles, and line up Skittles in matching colors of three or more from time to time, and sometimes think of Tapper when I’m at a bar, and fight the urge to automatically call Italians with mustaches “Mario” or search my friends’ houses for rupees and power-ups, but other than those examples (and maybe a few others), I don’t mix reality with video games much at all.

    Ou yeah, me at last

  2. Spanky McBubbles says:

Aww man! Hahahaha! I woke my son up laughing so loud! I’ve actually looked at things a lot like JB does in this. (The apples and the roses part.)

I missed the comic last week when I was away, and made sure to catch up asap when I got back (as well as comment). This strip= most awesome! PS: It’s April, and it’s snowing out really hard right now! (not kidding) This weather just keeps getting weirder and weirder.

    • shootzee says:

sorry you woke your son up, but happy you got such a laugh out of this one, Spanky! :D

and glad to see you back! was wondering as to your whereabouts.

and the weather’s been weird here in socal lately, too. no snow here, but rain one day, sun the next. cloudy and windy today. weird. hope the strange weather doesn’t portend anything… :(

  3. Maryz says:

I love this strip, but man, you need profesional help.

As every second person of the rest of us that grace this site with our presence every week… Or maybe you shouldnt eat tree seedlings.

The fourth panel reminds me of Darwinia. Have you played it? Amazing retro graphic and one of the most original games in the last decade.

A valiant effort, but ultimately you have to face it Lor: Resistance is futile.

Poor Mombots flowers. And poor Jefbot once Mombot gets her hands on him.

    • Eddie says:

Dude, wish me luck, tomorrow I have test from probability, statistics and numerical methods.

      • Eddie says:

Ta som dojebal jak sa dalo, dva dni odjebane a taky velky holy konsky kokot z toho, na chuja test bol, taze pekne pojdem na skurveny opravak, dopice.
        Vsetky nadavky som pouzil :D

        • Maryz says:

Wow, Im just glad allmost nobody here can read that. But that smiley in the end totaly overwrites all the swearwords you so masterfully utilized in this short message, so english speaking someone may fall under false impression you passed that test. Good luck with the second try.

          You can do it!

          • shootzee says:

thanks for translating without translating, Maryz! heheh. afraid to know exactly what Eddie’s saying there. suffice to say: hope your 2nd attempt goes better than the 1st, Eddie!

        • Shanna says:

Um… so what language was that? Looks Polish or Serbian or that general neck of the woods. Am I close?

          • Maryz says:

Very close. Souh of Poland is Slovak Republic and thats where me and Eddie are from. Polish and Slovak are closely related languages, we dont even need translators to more or less understand each other.

    • shootzee says:

glad you loved the strip, Maryz – i’m sure my sister Xinda would agree with you about me needing a shrink.

haven’t played Darwinia yet, but i’ve seen it and been intrigued. i know there’s a demo for Mac so i might just download it the next time i have a free afternoon.

and don’t give up hope for jefbot to appreciate Earth Day – there’s still one strip left in the “Going Green” arc!

  4. jf#3 says:

    hahaha….awesome man

  5. CheddarMan says:

That’s the way the world was meant to be seen! Maybe if roses were piranha plants it would keep those damn kids out of my yard.

  6. Stan Yan says:

The 8-bit world sure is beautiful — LOL! You are one f-ed up dude, Jeff!

  7. Jason (that crazy guy) says:

Nice bot! Love seeing the old games in the strip. <3 Missile Command

  8. Xinda says:

you in BIG trouble little bro!

  9. Xinda says:

ps. I’m on DUCKWATCH! Come over and see my new PETS!

  10. Pixie says:

Comic = EPIC per usual and I may be stomping seedlings if they don’t take again!

Oh yeah Hey Jef…I finally got my seeds in the peet pots and in the lil plastic (And reusable thank you very much) greenhouse and put them in the sun. Let’s hope a) they take and b) the neighborhood cats don’t get at them. I planted wildflowers…or as hubby calls them…weeds. Thank Badness he’s pretty.

Ohhhh MomBot is going to get you but good! Lor is totally erasing your videos.

  11. Shanna says:

This strip is awesome! I LOLed at work. (Shhh. Don’t tell I was reading this at work!) The commentary cracked me up just as much as the strip. I’d love to see what some of my old Italian relatives would say if you called them Mario! Then again, they probably wouldn’t know what the hell you were talking about. ;)

The JefBot closeup with the pixel eyes is worthy of turning into something – an avatar? a button? a T-shirt? I’ll have to think about it. Probably at least an avatar. That’ll be some advertising for you among the geeky yarnie folks I interact with online.

Speaking of schwag – HURRY UP AND GET THE STUFF YOU WERE PROMISING UP IN YOUR SHOP! OK, I’m done yelling now. :D

    • shootzee says:

i’m snickering that you LOL’d at work, Shanna! i won’t tell anybody. heheh.

you’ll have to call some of your relatives “Mario” and report back on whether they know what you’re talking about or not. ;)

glad you liked that close-up! when i originally drew it, the image was pulled out so you could see more of bot’s head, but it was more effective with it zoomed in on his eyes. i think you’re right – it might make a good BOTton! i’ll have to think about that…

hoping to get that merch up, soon! i’m shooting that webseries again on Friday but i’ll try and get the BOTshop updated this weekend. *fingers crossed*

  12. Jaeh says:

    That made me ROFL! xD

I’m happy that I’m *not* that into games/technology that much to see pixels in nature, and that I could still enjoy nature without thinking of technology.

Although, I sometimes see “Loading…Please wait” bars in my dreams. I don’t think that’s a good sign.

    • shootzee says:

WOO! hope you weren’t in public when you ROFL’d, Jaeh!

instead of 8-bit graphics, more and more i see nature in different ways. like, i’ll see some moss or bark and think what a great texture it’d make for this webcomic! heheh.

and i think “loading” bars are a VERY good sign! of what, i don’t know. ;)

  13. Annie says:

    jefbot’s Atari eyes are brilliant!

  14. Sharra says:

Sometimes when I’ve been playing a game too much (like when Oblivion came out) and I go somewhere (like hiking) I find myself looking around thinking, “This is all really well done. I can see each individual leaf on those trees. I wonder what res this is… Oh…” It always frightens me a little bit.

    • Maryz says:

Im somehow glad I wasnt the only one with this particular experience. Than I finished the game and after some time everything went back to normal.

      …Until Crysis came along.

      • Sharra says:

Man, I’m glad this happens to other people, too. I finished writing that and thought, “Oh god, I’m crazy and now everyone is going to know.”

        • shootzee says:

no one’ll think you’re crazy here, Sharra. remember this webcomic’s tagline: “All Dysfunctions Normal.” :D

          • Maryz says:

I know, Im planing to upgrade my PC allready. SWTOR might have something to do with that too.

            • Sharra says:

I don’t even usually like MMOGs and I can’t wait for that game. I must have played through KotOR at least five times (the first one; I couldn’t make head or tails of what was going on at the end of the second one). I love Bioware.

      • shootzee says:

uh-oh. looks like you’ll have ’til November to see things “normally,” Maryz – Crysis 2′s comin’ out.

    • shootzee says:

HA! i’ve done the same thing, Sharra! where i’ll look at the ground and be like, “wow the texture mapping here is really great” or i’ll look at the horizon and think, “the draw distance is incredible!”

      don’t be frightened. embrace it.

  15. Funnyshaffer says:

Oh no! I think it may be too late for you Jefbot! Very funny! …let me ask you this: Do you hear arcade music while walking around too?

  16. DaughterJudy says:

    Dost thou dream in pixels?

  17. Ha! Of course bot sees everything in video game. Great strip, bot!!! I love the colors and the facial expressions. I especially love Mombot’s face in the last panel. I just hope you don’t see food as those big dots that Pac-Man eats. That would be boring. ;)

  18. goldielocks says:

nice comic :) a couple days ago i saw a large man in a red t-shirt and overalls w/ a mustache riding a moped. all i could think was “Mario!” oddly enough it appears to have been unintentional on his part. lol

    • shootzee says:

ha! one of his friends needs to paint a friendly green dragon on that moped to complete the image, goldielocks! that, or hang out with him in green overalls. ;)

  19. epikto says:

Excellent! I’m glad i’m not the only one with pixel vision. Now if you went after the roses with a can of hairnet and a match you’d be in trouble.

  20. nicobot says:

If JB can’t go to the games…the games shall go to JB.

    • shootzee says:

true dat, nicobot! and i’ve been so busy i haven’t had time to game much in the past few weeks. guess i can look forward to more “mindgames.”

  21. Trones says:

Hehe, reminds me of just a couple days ago; I just got done with a Borderlands marathon and was walking to the store for refreshments… A dog barked out the window of a nearby car, and my first reaction was “Oh no, a skag! Kill it!” And just this morning I woke up with the Tetris music stuck in my head =)

    • shootzee says:

as long as you don’t act on those impulses to kill skags in the real world, it’s all good, Trones! and i wake up with Tetris in my head, too! ALL THE TIME.

  22. Ebony says:

Three words: You are amazing! I googled (it is a legit term, I swear! LOL) your name a few months ago after watching “Man’s Game” and stumbled upon this site; I have been hooked on your comic ever since. It is so refreshing to see such a creative interpretation on things most people miss or take for granted (e.g., growing up multiracial; which I appreciated, being mixed myself). Thank you for doing what you and I cannot wait to read the upcoming strip. I wish you much success in all your endeavors, Mr. Schuetze!

P.S. Sorry for the “novel” I typed. :/ Haha Take care! :)

    • Maryz says:

      English – Slovak
      Googled – Vygooglil

      It is a legit term.

    • shootzee says:

wow. thanks, Ebony! happy to hear you found your way here from Man’s Game – i think you might be the only one. heheh. glad you can relate to the strip and thanks for the comment – much success to you, too! :D

love the “novel.” feel free to type as much as you’d like here, anytime.

      • Ebony says:

Oh man; you just had to say you liked the novel…now I have to start drafting a series every week; that’s a lot of pressure! XD Haha Just kidding. Thank you for the kind words, though. Have a wonderful weekend. :)

P.S. Thank you Maryz for validating my claim; it was greatly appreciated. ;) LOL

  23. Rinthia says:

It must be funny to watch people’s faces warp when they realize the “Gamerz-vision” is being used. That and when they find half their living room turned upside down because of treasure hunters. Or wilting rosebushes…
Did you at least get some gold coins, Jeff?

    • shootzee says:

no coins, but i did find a heart when i broke into my friend’s house and busted open a vase, Rinthia. i ate it, and it made me feel much better! :D

  24. Foxmouse says:

I swear upon the golden Triforce Picori live in my garden. Every time I mow the lawn I find small round objects, mostly foreign coins, placed under flowers and along side rocks.

    It breaks my heart every time I find one of these “kin stones,” since it usually means I’m destroying their homes and padding my compost heap with their cute little mangled corpses. ;^;

On a lighter note my family and I will be spending Arbor day in an apple grove out in Oak Glen, California… Granted it isn’t raining, of course. Here’s hoping!

  25. Slave1 says:

OMG Best strip ever! That is all I can say about that. I, too, have the “Video Game View” syndrome. Doctors say it only gets worse with age, but I think I will be ok!

  26. eleventeen says:

Chess was the first game that did this to me as I starter (and continue still) to walk on tiles the way the Knight moves. Tetris was the first video game that did this to me, damn blocks are everywhere.

And when Halo came out and we were playing LAN parties every weekend, I couldn’t help but see sniper positions everywhere I looked.

    • shootzee says:

i think Tetris was the first video game that i’d literally see when i closed my eyes to go to sleep at night. “damn blocks” is right!

and i hear ya re: Halo. i had similar experiences when i was playing Half-Life mods 24/7.

  27. tyler_durden says:

wait till he finds the hidden mushroom and grows huge!!!

  28. Holaved says:

Okay, I give- which game’re the fruit trees?

In my heart of hearts, I know Jefbot sees Christmas tree lots as Battlezone. ^^

    • shootzee says:

the fruit is the orange from Pac-Man, Holaved! if my parents had cherry trees, that one would’ve been easier.

and how’d you know about those Christmas tree lots!? ;)

  29. Leithal says:

wow, i actually do that alot of the time too :D

    great work

  30. Steve says:

Jeffbot. Lay off the weed man.

  31. Kschenke says:

But… you wouldn’t stomp on the roses… they eat you!

You could have set them on fire, though… or if you ate a star….

  32. Blake says:

I’ve got a friend who played mw2 while in iraq. That’s gotta be kind of fucked up…

  33. Blake says:

I’ve got a friend who played cod mw while in iraq. That’s gotta be kind of fucked up…
