JEFBOT.193_Shopping a la Cart

I hate going to brick and mortar stores on Black Friday; standing in long lines and competing with a crush of noisy shoppers just isn’t my cup of tea. Fortunately, online retailers have made this holiday tradition mostly unnecessary, especially when sites like Amazon.com start their Black Friday on Monday and have limited specials throughout the entire week. Did I mention no tax? And free shipping? And awesome prices? And how much I love them?

Sorry for the late strip – I scratched my right eye (or something) and it took me forever to get this done. Hoping it heals up quickly so I can get to enjoying this Thanksgiving holiday.

Hee, hee! Them pajamas get me every time. And the Cornfather’s bewildered expression is classic. I get this feeling he’s gonna be saying, “Why didn’t I think of that?” as he tries to look for a parking space in a crowded lot.*giggles*

This joke is really funny too. I’m actually afraid of the crowds at Black Friday deals. A lot of people go in with that “Stomp all that get in the way” mentality. Plus I don’t want to die in a Walmart, of all places. That would suck.

You shouldn’t worry to much about getting the strip up on time if you’re injured! Dedication is wonderful, but stressing yourself could really hurt ya in the long run. I hope your eye feels better and happy belated Thanksgiving, dood!

    • shootzee says:

glad you like them “Asteroids” pajamas, Foxmouse. can you find the little spaceship on all three panels? not hard, i know. :)

yeah, dying in a walmart would suck. luckily, i don’t have any around me. i do have a future strip planned about my fear of dying in a costco, though…

my eye thing gave me a serious headache yesterday but things are much better now, thanks. i think if i hadn’t been so obsessed about getting it out on Black Friday, i would’ve pushed it ’til saturday, but you’re right – i gotta take better care of myself. belated happy thanksgiving backatcha! :)

      • Foxmouse says:

Holy hell, death in a Costco. Well at least it’s better then a Walmart. You can get a deal on a casket. Pretty sure you’ll get an even better deal if you buy in bulk, so be sure to take down a few others with ya while you’re at it. XD

  2. Annie says:

:D I love it! I feel you, jefbot. Today is a terrible day for shopping. Too many people. I had to go to a mall today. I was sad. :(

  3. Jayfred says:

Really funny – perfect for today! I bet I hate Black Friday more than you do ;) Take care of your eye and enjoy the weekend!

  4. A typical “shopping trip” for Jefbot. Ha! Really great, bot. Showin the world how geeks shop. I love it. And I’m sorry about the Razz mug.

  5. Funnyshaffer says:

Yes! I love the internet! It’s sooo true… no parking, no annoying people, no unwanted temptations! Great job!

  6. Cemalidor says:

You forgot the premium express deliverance.

    Speedy recovery for your eye.

    • shootzee says:

ya know, i know a lot of people who subscribe to the Amazon Prime service, Cemalidor, but i find the free service is fast enough for me. and thanks for the well-wishes for my eye! i think all the positive vibes so many of you beamed me must’ve helped! :D

      • Foxmouse says:

You know what those good vibe beams are called? Care Bear stare.

Oh that’s right, I went there.

…I’ve got a paint brush on my tummy.

Fear the might of the Care Bear stare! C:

        • shootzee says:

that Care Bear stare was mighty powerful indeed, Foxmouse! thanks to everybody who joined in on that with their belly symbol. heheh.

so does that mean Prof. Coldheart was behind my eye malady?

          • Foxmouse says:

More like that little brat Shreeky. She seems like the kind of jerk that’d poke you in the eye for comedic effect. EVIL comedic effect.

When are people gonna learn to leave the eye poking to the slapstick professionals like the Three Stooges, Tom & Jerry, and your sister Xinda?

If I wasn’t using my Care Bear stare I’d give Shreeky a charlie horse. *shakes fist*

  7. Maryz says:

Now thats what I call cmfortable shopping. I hate going to stores for any reason other than choosing my food and everyone who knows me, especialy my mum, can sometimes throw a fit about me wearing ages old clothes. I mean, give me a break, its warm, clean, comfortable and Im not going to any special ocasion, so what if it isnt brand new. I often think that if people cared less about appearances we would live in a happier place.

    • shootzee says:

i’m with ya, Maryz – i love my old clothes. you should see my collection of tees. i have so many i have to store most of them in boxes and rotate them in and out when the mood strikes.

  8. reynard61 says:

Cyber-shopping is all well-and-good, but make *sure* that you keep *ALL* receipts (I PDF them) and watch your bank account like a hawk. Over Thanksgiving someone(s) made two fraudulent charges to my debit card and it’ll probably be a few weeks before the bank and I can get it straightened out. (Cyber-thieves love the Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays because they know that a) people tend to let their guard down, and b) the customer support is usually minimally staffed or not staffed at all.)

Also; take care of that eye, Jeff. Get it looked at if necessary. After all, we wouldn’t want a repeat of this, would we?

    • shootzee says:

keeping track of receipts and double checking bank account records are great tips, reynard61, and ones that everyone (myself included) should practice often.

ha! yes, my eye didn’t get that bad this time, thank the gods. at first i thought it might be pink eye but now i think i scratched the inside of my eyelid while i was sleeping, somehow. or maybe it was an allergic reaction to a friend’s dog i was playing with the day before. not exactly sure, but things seem to be on the mend, thanks.

  9. Weymer125 says:

Yeah Black Friday sucks. My older brother works at a Best Buy and he said there was just a sea of people screaming for stuff. Someone supposedly was trampled for Assasin’s Creed 2. =(

    • shootzee says:

so crazy! stories like that are why i refuse to compete with crowds on days like Black Friday, Weymer125. i mean, it’s not like Assassin’s Creed II is even scarce or anything. at worst i’m sure if it sold out at the local Gamestop it could be picked up at the Best Buy down the street.

      • Weymer125 says:

Yeah, there is even 3 Gamestops in our neighborhood and they were all sold out of mainly MW2, Assasin’s Creed 2, and Left 4 Dead 2. I mean 3 Gamestops that is utterly scary and then Best Buy is still crowed for them.

  10. Stan Yan says:

    Hope your eye’s okay, Jeff!

  11. Sonitan says:

Love Michael’s expression on the last panel. So funny XD
    *bwuahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaa!!

Well, I admit that I hate people with a passion, but for some reason or another my mom and I love Black Fridays. Maybe it’s cause we use public transportation (so we don’t have to worry about fighting to get a parking space :P ) and we like to hear all the people fighting and complaining in the lines. As a matter of fact, we just take our cards or money and NO big purses, and notepads and count how many people we spot fighting or complaining. THe one who spots the leasts has to pay for the meals 8D

I do love amazon, but they only send books to Puerto Rico ;__; For reasons I DO NOT understand they DO NOT ship anything electronic or electrical to Puerto Rico. I CAN NOT even buy MP3s!!!!! Can you believe that?!! And then they complain about Piracy! If they make it so hard for the honest people to try to do things right!! For pete’s sake! It’s a computer file! I can send a computer file from my email to any email in the world, but I can’t legally buy a mp3 file ’cause they “can’t ship to Puerto Rico”. Ridiculous!! Thanks heaven’s there’s ebay >__<

Hope your eye got a lot better, jef and that you enjoyed your day with your family. Tons of love from a fan.

    • shootzee says:

yeah, parking used to be such a headache (when i used to participate in such things), so eliminating that would make Black Friday a bit better, Sonitan. and i think if i had to pay for people not fighting, i’d have to start a few, myself. ;)

and: que!? Amazon.com doesn’t “ship” MP3s to puerto rico!!? that is crazy. there must be some weird copyright laws in effect there or something.

yep. tried to stay off the computer this weekend as much as possible over the holiday (that didn’t quite work out) so my eye’d have time to mend. seems to be doing a lot better, gracias! hope your turkey day with your family was awesome, too!

  12. Shay says:

I slept for most of Black Friday and then my bf and I went out for sushi late in the afternoon and hit the library too. No shopping for me! I have more than half of my shopping done already (mostly amazon too) but still have to figure out presents for my stepmonster, oldest niece, nephew and my bf’s parents… o_O What do you buy for people you’ve never met who you are meeting for the first time over Christmas??

Feel better soon Jef and don’t strain your eye too much!

    • shootzee says:

sounds like the perfect way to spend Black Friday, Shay! also sounds like your Christmas is going to be very… interesting, to say the least. :) i say go with gift certificates for the people you’ve never met. kinda impersonal but no one generally gets disappointed.

my eye feels betta but i still have a headache. hopefully everything will be 100% tomorrow, thanks!

      • Shay says:

Heh. My bf’s parents are unique… I got them a DVD of Up and then a book of Zombie Christmas Carols ’cause the bf said they’d love them.

Yeah… Christmas will be interesting. Train from Michigan to Chicago where bf lives, then he’s driving out to Minnesota where his parents live. They better like me (and me them) otherwise I’m stuck with no escape!

Glad your eye is feeling better and hope the headache is gone.

    • Maryz says:

Good luck with the Christmas Shay!

If you figure that ages old question, let me know.

As for Jefbots suggestion, I think gift certificates are too impersonal, but as I dont have any better idea I should probably be quiet.

      Fingers crossed.

      • Holaved says:

Gift certificates for a coffee place (EVERYONE drinks coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and/or apple cider. And likes the occasional muffin.).

That, and/or gift certificates for their local movie theater. Who doesn’t like movies AND dislike paying for them? Not to mention a lotta theaters’ certificates work on the snacks, too. :)

  13. Holaved says:

But, but- where’s the *rush*?? Where’s the *danger*?? Where’s that sense of accomplishment you can otherwise only get by successfully holding Russia in your next game of Risk???

    Internet shopping is no FUN.

(okay, except for getting to ‘open a present’ when the mail comes. I’ll give you that.)

Still, thank you for reminding me- I still have $25 worth of Amazon credit, and I needs me some Marvel Zombies!

    • shootzee says:

ya know, hitting the “place your order” button before either the timer or the item stock runs out is enough excitement for me, Holaved. heheh. and yes, it is like early Christmas when i go over to my parents’ and see all the packages piled up.

and ooh – marvel zombies – good choice! :D

      • Holaved says:

Speaking of Christmas and zombies, ever seen ‘Night of the Comet’? It is, in fact, a *Christmas* zombie movie.

It even has Chakotay from Star Trek Voyager as a trucker. :D

  14. Spanky McBubbles says:

Sorry it took so long to leave a comment, as I was still in turkey massacre mode most of the weekend. I hope everyone had an amazing turkey day as well! Love the Asteroids pj’s still, was nice to see them in all their glory in this strip! I avoid Black Friday every year, and was almost tempted to do it this year, but fundage did not allow me to do so. Gotta love how JB just does his thing, and heads back to bed. CF’s expression is priceless in this one. 2 questions for you: What does the RAZZ stand for on the mug JB is carrying? Did you participate in Cyber Monday sales? And on a final note: this was an awesome strip! :D

    • shootzee says:

sounds like the massacre went well, Spanky! i think i’m still full. :P

and glad you liked the strip. hope you got some vicarious buying thrills from it. heheh.

the “RAZZ” mug was something a friend of mine gave me a long time ago, which Michael recently dropped and broke here in the Real World. “RAzZ” is a nickname of mine, so it’s an unofficial nickname of jefbot here, too. i thought i’d memorialize the mug in today’s strip. :)

      • Spanky McBubbles says:

Oh noes! I’m sorry about your mug, and uh.. how did you get the nickname Razz? :P

        • shootzee says:

it’s actually the short version of a longer name i attained in high school, Spanks. i don’t really remember how i got it, so there’s not a good story for it, but it’ll probably be integrated into the mythos of the webcomic someday. :)

  15. So Jefbot, what DID you buy on black friday?

    • shootzee says:

i was hoping for Rock Band Beatles to be part of the Amazon Black Friday (or Cyber Monday!) sale, but that never happened. i think i bought some presents for others and Assassin’s Creed II for myself, though.

  16. you and i shop the same way.

  17. plo koon says:

ok, the jammies are awesome! but what really sells this strip to me is his “Razz” coffee cup. This popes up in my head whenever i see it:
    “My name”-”starts with a D-”
“Is Rasputin, but you can call me Razz!”
