You know a comic is going to be good when you’re already laughing by the first panel! At the same time I couldn’t help but “Awwwwwwwwwww!” because of how they were sitting together while playing their game. Love how you cut the last 2 panels in half! I again laughed out loud (even more this time!) when I again read what Cel had to say to JB. She’s got quick wit, is good at the game play and is good with the comebacks, which reminds me of myself. I like her alot! (I think JB should keep her. :P ) Love how you captured the underside of the boardwalk, and really liking what you’re doing with this story arc so far!

  2. shootzee says:

wow, thanks, Spanky! glad you got a chuckle out of that first panel – i went through so many video game “mysteries” before choosing the NES one. was thinking about writing a blog about some of the ones that didn’t make the cut, so if you have one, send it over! also happy you’re digging the storyline and cel. at this point, cel’s got jefbot hooked, so it remains to be seen if she feels the same. :)

  3. Spanky McBubbles says:

Wow first to comment. First time that’s happened in awhile. :D

  4. shootzee says:

    first two comments, even! :D

  5. I’m starting to thing she IS a figment of his imaginiation.

  6. shootzee says:

we’ll find out when the Cornfather comes by, Kevin! (spoiler: she’s real). ;)

  7. Hey, ran across your comic recently, and I just wanted to say hello from a fellow webcartoonist-slash-actor. Although (a) my webcomic isn’t based at all on my life, and has nothing to do with acting, and (b) it’s currently offline (though I plan to relaunch it soon), and also (c) I use a different pseudonym for my webcomic, so it’s not under this name. But anyway… great comic, and hey, if you or your friends are ever filming a short or a webisode for which you could use a thirty-something red-haired character actor, you know who to contact. ;)

  8. shootzee says:

thanks, man! send me a link to your webcomic – i’d love to check it out. and i can’t promise anything, but if the opportunity comes up where an actor with your stats is needed, i’ll see what i can do. :)

  9. Hans says:

HAHAHA…fake pain…now why couldn’t I find a Cel…is she based on anyone? or an Amalgamation?….and are they single?

  10. shootzee says:

ha! cel’s definitely an amalgamation, Hans. none of ‘em available at the moment, unfortunately. :)

  11. D. Long says:

Awesome comic. Great layout, great dialogue. All around just grand.

  12. shootzee says:

big thanks, D.! your strip’s fantastic – been enjoying the hell out of it.

  13. DaughterJudy says:

Wow. That’s amazing. My boyfriend and I sit like that on the couch playing our DS’s. And Cel is totally lying. We do exist. ^^

  14. shootzee says:

nice! glad you could relate to their game-playing positions and refute the “gamer girl” myth, DJ. now let me know if your bf experiences “fake pain” when you kick him. ;)

  15. Eptha says:

Love it Love it love it love it! Especially the greatest video game mysteries of all time.

  16. shootzee says:

awesome. it’s amazing how we all just kind of knew how to give CPR to our NES cartridges, right?

  17. Stan Yan says:

I love how they’ve crossed their legs over one another! Nice attention to flirty detail!

  18. shootzee says:

thanks, Stan. i’m all about flirty detail. :)

  19. Tim says:

I always thought blowing into the NES cartridge removed dust and that’s why it sometimes worked.

  20. shootzee says:

i’ve heard that the moisture from your “mouth air” helps bridge the contacts between console and cartridge, but i don’t know if that’s the case, Tim. it’s a mystery. :)

  21. Sir Sniper says:

Obviously, Jeffbot doesn’t read Fanboys. And yet, I still haven’t found a gamer girl yet. I think the government creates them to throw us off.

  22. shootzee says:

is Fanboys a webcomic, Sir Sniper? if so, is it good? and i totally agree with you – maybe i’ll have to make a “video game conspiracies” strip as a companion to “video game mysteries.”

  23. John K says:

The much vaunted NES blow (that sounds dirty)! I was also fond of jamming the cartridge in quickly and that somehow worked as well.

Also, I’m starting to think along the lines of Kevin.

  24. shootzee says:

i had a bunch of techniques, JK. the “quick trick,” “soft touch,” and the “make cartridge flush against edge” among them. :)

  25. Maryz says:

This thing misses only one thing: Cornfather catching them right now. I soo want too see how he and Musashi would react. It would hillarious if Musashi would be spooked by her at first glance.

  26. shootzee says:

heheh. i like it! the Cornfather and Mu will definitely be meeting cel soon, Maryz, although not quite in the way you envisioned.

  27. Maryz says:

    RE: POSTER

Put second and third panel back together, put there Cornfather with a drink leaning by pole, Musashi on his shoulder with his classy glasses, Abraxas having a nap next to Cel and Xinda stalking the group with a knife.

    Finished.

  28. shootzee says:

very cool, Maryz. i can see it in my mind! i wonder if Xinda would have beachwear or not?

  29. Zach Light says:

……I bet she just saying that because she’s loseing.

  30. shootzee says:

ha! nice theory, Zach. knowing cel’s skills though, she’s probably kicking jef’s butt.

  31. FunnyShaffer says:

Ouch… I felt that… wow, there’s so much tension… I think a cyber kiss may be near! I love the back and forth! Outstanding as always!!

  32. shootzee says:

thanks, man. hopefully if that happens they won’t get cyber-cooties.

  33. Ploute says:

Okay even I went “AWwwwwwww” when I saw their feet intermingled. It’s just how my wife and I sit on the couch. Her feet on top, mine being squished down. :-) I have to say you have made a great girl for Jefbot. Now the question is, does she have a counter in RL for YOU? Just asking.

  34. shootzee says:

and now i went, “awwwww” with that description of you and your wife chilling, Ploute. :) and no, no complete “cel” at the moment, though she’s basically a composite of relationships i’ve had in the past, so i can attest: gamer girls do exist. ;)

  35. reynard61 says:

Yikes! The Gamer Goddess Cel is certainly a humorous/wrathful deity! (Depending, of course, on how serious her threat is…)

  36. shootzee says:

heheh. yes, definitely humorous/wrathful, reynard61. at least with words. i wonder what she’ll demand for sacrifice?

  37. Sonitan says:

    She’s akready all over him
    *evil laugh of doom*
Yep, defenitely jef will only feel fake pain… unless Cel kicks him we-know-where.
My big brother says that there’s no way to fake that pain *LOL*

  38. shootzee says:

your brother speaks 100% truth, Sonitan. :( oh man, let’s hope jefbot doesn’t find out…

  39. great panels…as usual!

  40. Foxmouse says:

Super cute two panel cut, sir. x3

Not real, huh? But then… if that’s true, what else is not real? Roswell? Moon Landing? Unicorns? Don’t you try to take my unicorns from me.

    *throws a table*

  41. shootzee says:

lol. nice table throw there, Foxmouse! and hate to break it to you, but i’ve heard nessie and sasquatch might not be real, either. :(

  42. I love this one, bot. You and Cel make a cute couple. You both are staring into video game screens instead of each other’s eyes. But I guess that’ll have to be the next strip. And I do mean “strip.” Great work, man. Beautiful colors and a gorgeous pier background.

  43. shootzee says:

well thanks, Cornacchia. yeah – socializing while not actually looking at each other is a natural behavior of gaming nerds. this just happened to me with a bunch of guys at uWink. we pretty much spent the whole time socializing while looking at screens.

  44. speearr says:

Nice how her legs are resting on his. :)

  45. shootzee says:

glad you liked that detail, speearr. :)

  46. xinda says:

If she kicks you in the face, she’ll be my all time favorite jefbot girl!

  47. shootzee says:

would she out-fav mombot, lor, or XINDA!?

  48. JefbotFan#300 says:

JB…i have a confession to make…i cheated on Cel….i’m seeing another girl. her name is Faye of Questionable Content……i feel dirty……….help me please…….

  49. shootzee says:

i think the best thing you can do is to be completely honest with her. maybe she’ll understand. or maybe she’ll fake-kick you right in the berries. :)

  50. Ion says:

“that means if i kick you in the face – WITH MAH ENERGY LEGS!” Cel is getting a far cooler character development than i suggested. bot is about to perform some CRAAAYZYYY performance to impress her (maybe… by winning karaoke!). (my studybuddies and me agree, germany loves your comic :D / even tho stereotyping is not good at all, I should rather everyone :ยง)

  51. shootzee says:

ha! maybe if jefbot played guitar hero’s “painkiller” flawlessly, on expert difficulty, that just might impress her, Ion, otherwise, i’m not sure what it’s going to take. :) and great to know i have readers in germany – my webstats were showing my site was getting hits from there, but i wasn’t sure if they were readers of my strip or just random google hits on my last name. tell your studybuddies i said thanks for reading! :D

  52. cogwell says:

i had always wondered if they were real. now to work on the mystery of the saskquatch.

  53. shootzee says:

get back to me if you solve that one, cogwell!

  54. EvilStepQueen says:

JefbotFan#300…Faye is awesome…sometimes alittle too depressing…but her and Hazel from Girls with Slingshots or PeeJee and Aubrey from Something Positive!!!! Wait…I’m a girl…umm…yeah…the dudes in those comics are great too!! (Oh and Jefbot…love your webcomic, and yes female gamers are real!!! )

  55. shootzee says:

thanks! glad to hear from more readers that lady gamers are real, ESQ! and yeah, faye and hazel are totally rad. not too familiar with SP but i hear it’s great.

  56. RinnaRainbowlicious says:

What’s really cute is that they’re not even looking at each other, just staring at the screens. :D

  57. shootzee says:

i think so, too, RR! if they start smoochin’ i wonder if they’ll still be looking at those DS screens? ;)

  58. AvA says:

True gamers take not their eyes from the action, even when turn-based, for the distracted gamer is the fragged gamer.

  59. shootzee says:

you know it, AvA. high five! :D
