JEFBOT.146_The Power

I recently bought a Logitech Harmony 550 Universal Remote to replace the countless number of remotes I have for controlling all the electronic devices in my entertainment center. So when I say I want to shout He-Man’s “I HAVE THE POWER!!!” line when I’m using it, I’m not kidding. It’s that awesome.

I LOVE IT! My favorite show as a kid… I enjoy soooo much the 2nd frame!!! …and then the cut of you holding the universal remote… OUTSTANDING, and I so wish I had a universal remote!!!

  2. shootzee says:

glad you dug it, funnyshaffer! i was more into Robotech, Transformers and G.I. Joe at the time, but there’s no doubting He-Man’s intro has screeEEamed its way into my brain!

  3. Spanky McBubbles says:

*Round of Applause* This made me giggle! The first 2 panels were all sorts of awesome, and the last one totally executed the punchline awesomely! Even today my friends and I still quote He-Man, as well as She-Ra (as well as sing the theme songs.) :P Love love love it!

  4. shootzee says:

she-ra!!! HA! i don’t remember what her intro was like, or the words she said to gain her powers, but i better not youtube it, lest it get stuck in my head. thanks, Spanky McB!

I’ve had a Harmony for a while. Its not just that I love it… my wife loves it. Reduces clutter and confusion. Well worth the duckets in my opinion.

Oh, and just in case you and your LA ilk are Lakers fans…. Go Nuggets!

  6. shootzee says:

yes, *so* worth it! now contemplating if i should get that harmony/ps3 adapter thingy… go LAKERS!!! heheh.

  7. Stan Yan says:

    Great comic, Jeff! Hilarious!

    Hallelujah, Eleventeen! Go Nuggets! http://subculturecomic.com/wp/?p=756

  8. shootzee says:

thanks, dude! and i’m really not a basketball fan, but with all this nuggets love going on in these comments, don’t be surprised if a SubCulture character is sporting a lakers jersey in that guest strip i’m doing for you guys. just sayin. ;)

  9. jhorsley3 says:

man I want one of those remotes! they are AWESOME! my uncle has the fancy touch screen one and it blows my mind,

  10. shootzee says:

oh man, those touchscreen ones are *sweet!* hella expensive, tho.

  11. Nate Fakes says:

He-Man lives on in everyones memory!

  12. shootzee says:

so true, Nate. he definitely has the power. :)

  13. John K says:

Awesome He-Man, dude! Your artwork never ceases to amaze me!

  14. shootzee says:

thanks, man! was fun to draw!

  15. DaughterJudy says:

RoflXD If we ever got a universal remote my dad would freak out. we have a grand total of 4 or 5 remotes for all the various electronics we have in our entertainment center. XD

  16. shootzee says:

father’s day is coming soon, DaughterJudy! condensing all those remotes down to one might make the perfect gift. :D

  17. Hehe here we see our clear age difference, because I never understood what all the fuss about He-Man was about. But at least I get the (funny) reference!

  18. shootzee says:

yeah, i wouldn’t call myself a “fan” per se, but i did come across it enough in my cartoon watching to know that intro by heart. :)

  19. Stan Yan says:

I’m right there with you, Kevin, but I definitely love the “numbskull” “greyskull” play on words.

  20. shootzee says:

heheh. glad you liked that, Stan.

  21. Bobby Timony says:

I have actually done that. In real life.

  22. shootzee says:

awesome, Bobby! i have too, but i really need to do it more often. maybe in a crowded elevator next time? whaddayathink?

  23. Klowd says:

I was a huge He-Man fan was I was a kid. Had all the toys, had the sword, everything. We’ve still got the old home movies of me running around waving that sword yelling “I have the POWER!”

  24. shootzee says:

right on, Klowd! if you ever upload those he-man home movies to youtube, let me know: that sounds hilarious. :D

  25. xinda says:

I personally liked SKELETOR & Beastman and the Sabertooth doggy.

  26. shootzee says:

    i’m impressed, xin! i didn’t know you knew your he-man characters! figures you’d like skeletor… ;)

  27. reynard61 says:

I was never a big fan of the show, but I did kinda like the movie because Frank Langella got to show his ’30s-era, Saturday-Matinee-serial-style, “Ming-the-Merciless” acting chops and it had a rather sly sense of humor. (Although I thought that Billy Barty’s character, Gwildor, was the movie’s Jar Jar Binks [see "Film"]. I have nothing against Barty as an actor or a person, but the character was absolutely unnecessary to the plot, such as it was.)

  28. shootzee says:

now i’ve got to see that movie, reynard61! i had no idea frank langella was in it (who’d he play? skeletor, i assume?)! at the time it came out i was experiencing dolph lundgren burn-out, but next time i see it playing on cable, i might just give it a shot.

  29. AWESOME!!!! I love He-Man but I love the UNIVERSAL REMOTE MOOOORRRREEEE!!!!!!! Way to go, bot. I love the humor in this one and I love how you drew He-Man. He looks a lot like me. ;-)

  30. shootzee says:

heheh. at the rate you’ve been losing weight and working out, i fully expect you to look like he-man within the next month or so, Michael! which is impressive, considering you don’t have the power of grayskull on your side…

  31. EOTD says:

I have a universal in my apartment at school, and while it’s pretty awesome most of the time, it can’t seem to fathom that sometimes you turn things off with their own off buttons, after which it refuses to work until you go through this whole crazy help screen. Not cool.

  32. shootzee says:

yeah, mine does kind of the same thing, EOTD; it starts acting wonky if you try and control the components separately and only functions normally when you activate everything as a preset or “activity.” as long as i stick to the presets it works fine, though. it’s just a bit temperamental.

  33. JefbotFan#300 says:

sadly i dont have d remote…too damn expensive….i believe in malaysia its price is like 1 month pay….

  34. shootzee says:

yikes! you kidding, JF3!? 1-month pay!? i got my harmony remote from amazon, refurbished by logitech for a vastly encheapened price, and it looks and works as good as new. recommended.

  35. i remember he-man has having a larger package. but otherwise, stupendous! i do the same thing with my universal remote.

  36. shootzee says:

i think i did the same thing when i got home with my newly bought iphone. :)

  37. Ron Locke says:

Hay man whats happened with the whole gamertag from the chick thing? Serouly? you moved from bath to this?? I wonder how his life is.. lol.. i guess he moves quickly.. I hope we can figure out what happens between Jefbot and the girl he meet at the store.. Lets see what happens if you put it off togather we all will forget.. lol

  38. shootzee says:

jefbot and cel will meet up again in due time, Ron! and yes, probably via gamertags, heheh. won’t be for a while though, since i’ll be running a few more of these one-or-two shot strips, a guest strip, then a new storyline before her return.

  39. Das Twig says:

Hell yea man, any chance I get I yell that with whatever item I’m holding. I did it today at work, I was in the kitchen and I got tasked with fabricating an employee meal and I grabbed a bio-thermometer and yelled that. It was hilarious, to me at least. Then we all had the most awesome porkloin I’ve ever put into my mouth. =D Keep me laughing my good man.

  40. shootzee says:

thanks, Das Twig! keep on shouting!!! i’ve always wanted to do the “power” yell at work, but i don’t think anybody in my department would get the reference. still, like you, it would be funny to me at least. :)

    and: mmMMMmmm… pork loin.

  41. reynard61 says:

“i had no idea frank langella was in it (who’d he play? skeletor, i assume?)!”

    Of course!

“(…)next time i see it playing on cable, i might just give it a shot.”

Actually, you’re more likely to find it on VHS. I haven’t seen it on any cable movie rotation in years, and I don’t think it’s been released on DVD — or even Laserdisc for that matter…

  42. shootzee says:

too bad. i guess there are always the torrents if i just have to see it. :)

  43. Murrday says:

Cornfather needs he-Man legs! Those spaghettis he’s got in the last panel are
disturbing. Since he’s been working out in RL, he should get a leg upgrade in the toon also.

  44. shootzee says:

actually, i think his legs have gotten even skinnier since his workout/weightloss program, Murrday!!! :O

  45. EOTD says:

An update about our universal (a Harmony 520, I discovered when I bothered to look) – it’s now started ignoring the existence of the sound system altogether. Damn technology.

  46. shootzee says:

uh-oh. hope that doesn’t happen to my 550, EOTD. i guess i should enjoy it while it lasts. :)

  47. Anonymous says:

Like the Cornfather, I wish I were able to control the Universal Remote Control. Apparently, we only pick up Sports Channels. Totally sucks.
