No, my sister Linda did not get me a ferret for my birthday, although she’s been threatening to for years. I’m hoping she’s let go of that dream at this point (doubtful, if you’ve been following her posts in the comments for the past several strips), but since I was afraid this strip might make her act on those thoughts, I made sure to release this one after my birthday had passed. And although I didn’t get a ferret (whew!) I did get a new angry scarf. Sweet!
And as far as “Abraxas” goes, the closest I’ve come to a pet with that name is a humpback whale I adopted in college through the Adopt A Whale program, which, although it’s a great program and I recommend it highly, could not guarantee a happy ending for poor Abraxas. I’ll just leave it at that.

Thank goodness I am already up to my knees in cats or this strip would have sent me straight to the nearest ferret store. You have also made me want cake.

I adore ferrets, hehehe. I had to give up the one I had when I was younger though, due to them being illegal in the county I lived in. Total suckage.

Ferrets are cool, but they don’t smell very nice. Hope your birthday was grand.

y’know, i’ve never smelled a stinky one, but i hear that about them. i think the one my friend had in jr. high must’ve had its scent glands removed, since it didn’t really have much of an odor. thanks for the bday wish, DJ!

I still can’t believe ferrets are illegal in Cali; it’s just not fair. It’s always the case, animals get the shaft because of irresponsible humans.

you know, i’m not as familiar with sluggy freelance as i probably should be, Murrday. i take it a ferret is a major character? let me know and maybe Abraxas’s stay will be short-lived.
oh, and the new angry scarf is fluffier and more colorful, but not quite as soft as the original, but it might be a little longer, if you can imagine that. 
Ferrets may be illegal in California but you can still go to a pet store in California and they have food and toys specifically for ferrets which I always thought was very odd.

It took me a second to get the angry scarf reference in the post, partly because I have a bad memory, and partly because the ferret itself looks like a very angry scarf in the last panel. XD

LoL my friend did the same thing when he got his ferret a few years ago. sadly he didn’t relocate his to his parents’ house when the apartments got fumigated and the poor ferret got sick and died

I had an adopted Humpback as a kid named Crystal (male) so named cause his mom was Salt do to a large white patch on her tail
last i heard he had Sired a Calf so woot but that was about 10 years ago
