JEFBOT.103_The Apothecary
The previous strip, A Lot of Hot Air, was supposed to be the end of the Burpless storyline. But these strips write themselves sometimes, and this one forced itself into my consciousness while I was coming up with what was supposed to be today’s comic. Look for that one on Friday, unless another idea bullies its way into my brain.
While my sister, Laura, didn’t make me a “Burp Tonic,” she did make “medicine” out of toothpaste and a big bottle of something she found in our medicine cabinet, and would distribute doses to all the neighborhood kids, when we were very young. Maybe that’s why my immune system’s so good and why I rarely get sick. Or maybe that’s what started me being burpless in the first place! Hmmmm…

Every younger sibling experiences something like that. you had medicine, i had my brother trying to feed me worms one day while i was a baby. Parents should never make a toddler watch wildlife programs about birds!
December 16th, 2008 at 3:32 am
yikes, i hope your brother didn’t succeed, Kylej64! i was obsessed with those wildlife programs as a kid (actually, i still am), but didn’t have a younger sibling to torture.

Ha ha. Everyone begged me to make “the medicine.” Was it the cure for Jefbot?
December 16th, 2008 at 5:33 am
it was definitely the cure. for just what exactly, i’m not sure.
December 16th, 2008 at 6:06 am
“Don’t tell mom.” I’ve heard that before! Well, I guess when you need to burp, you’re willing to try anything.. even if that means ending up in a secret hospital room… does she have one in her basement? So funny!
December 16th, 2008 at 6:33 am
thanks, man. and yeah, at this point, i’ll pretty much try anything.
December 16th, 2008 at 7:21 am
Ha! That reminds me of my big sister trying to feed me “sandbox pies” when I was a toddler!
December 16th, 2008 at 7:33 am
MmmMmmm - sandbox pies!
December 16th, 2008 at 8:41 am
LOL!!! But, this is weird…my sister used to make the same concoctions!!
December 16th, 2008 at 8:51 am
what!? crazy. did your sister cure you too, Jeff?
December 16th, 2008 at 9:16 am
this is one of my favorites!
December 16th, 2008 at 9:33 am
*glee* glad to hear that, g!
December 16th, 2008 at 9:48 am
maybe Laura would consider a nursing career!
December 16th, 2008 at 9:49 am
that last comment was from Nurse mary btw
December 16th, 2008 at 9:51 am
what with all the prescribing she was doing and all, i’ve always thought the same thing, Nurse Mary.
December 16th, 2008 at 9:52 am
the last panel describes every brother/sister relationship. Defiantly mine with my two sisters (both named Kim, strange story, don’t ask!)
December 16th, 2008 at 11:33 am
two kims!? man, i gotta know that story!!!
December 16th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
when are you going to do the “tic tac” incident…?
December 16th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
someday that story will be told, Xinda.
December 16th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
“Don’t tell mom.”
I think she’ll figure it out when she gets the hospital bill.
December 16th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
jefbot has health insurance, reynard61, i’m just not sure if it covers accidental poisoning via ingesting a sibling-developed medicine.
December 16th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
I never had those big sibling torture moments – I feel robbed. However, my best friend and I DID frequently play “restaurant” which involved all sorts of inedible nasties (excluding Cheeto salad, that is). Hilarious strip, Jefbot.
December 16th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
thanks, Jax! actually, if the “tonic” had been developed by Xinda it would’ve been a “torture moment,” but Lor’s intentions were magnanimous even if it ended up with jefbot in the hospital.
oh, and send me the recipe for that salad. i’m intrigued!
December 16th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Call me clueless… I didn’t know about this until a few years ago… around the same time I heard about the Moth Lady at the upstairs window and the shark in the bathtub drain. Obviously, no one told Mom.
December 16th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
ohmygod… the moth lady. *shudder*
December 16th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
This is a great one, bot! I love the line, “Don’t tell, Mom.” I’ve eaten Lor’s food before and it’s always been so delicious. I can’t imagine her “medicine” not being tasty. Oh well, I’ll have to taste it and see for myself….with this economy, I could use the disability.
December 16th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
i’m sure if she made that medicine now it would taste like heaven, but back then, it was as nasty as it sounds.
December 17th, 2008 at 9:18 am
Ack! Both your sisters are trying to kill you 24/7!! What the heck you did to them, jeffbot?!! Yeah, is a sacred rule since the begining to the world that the young ones should be tortures by the olders *Bwuahahahahahahahahahah!!!*
Oh, yeah, life is good >8D
December 17th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
heheh. well, Lor’s counterpart did her fair share of torturing when we were kids, but with the “medicine” i believe (whether that belief was misguided or not) she was trying to do good.
December 17th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
hahahahaha~ man, this strip reminded me one of many “don’t tell mom” moments with my brother
December 18th, 2008 at 2:18 am
ha! that must be one of the most popular phrases among siblings, for sure, alecho!
December 18th, 2008 at 2:34 am
“dont tell mom” lol…
December 18th, 2008 at 3:33 am
i liked that too, JefbotFan#300. that that would be the first thing Lor says as jefbot regains consciousness just tickles me. also: i noticed you’ve been reading through the archives and leaving comments, so just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to do that!
December 18th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
haha hysterical!
December 18th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
I can’t remember how many times my sister and I said that to each other. SOOO much love. Great strip Bot!
December 18th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
thanks, Eptha! i also seem to remember that phrase being used when i was a kid, and then mom getting told anyway. heheh.
December 18th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
Lol. Great comic Jeff.
“Don’t tell mom” xD
December 18th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
thanks for lol’ing, Natalie. hope you’re having a happy holiday!
December 19th, 2008 at 2:35 am
Mothlady, you gotta tell that one!!
December 19th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
i might have to wait til next halloween for that one, Mr Mojo. it’s ssCCCaaaarrrrryyyy!!!
December 19th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
i used to put urine in my medicine and give it to the boys in my neighborhood to drink and they did. but, mine tasted really good because i mixed it with chocolate milk. also, eventually i wasn’t allowed to play with any of the children on the block because everyone thought i was bad. so then i started shooting them with bb’s. fun times!
December 21st, 2008 at 2:31 pm
okay, now you’re freaking me out a little, seth6.
December 21st, 2008 at 10:53 pm
a pleasure jefbot. your webcomic is worth the time and effort of reading and commenting. always give credit where they are due is my opinion. keep up the good work.
